It’s Official! Spider-Man Homecoming Arrives in 2017

Jon Watt’s 2017 solo Spidey film is officially titled Spider-Man Homecoming

Although Tom Holland, the Marvel cinematic universe’s new Spider-Man, hit the red carpet for today’s Captain America: Civil War premiere earlier tonight, it seems he immediately boarded a plane and flew to Las Vegas to surprise the crowd at CinemaCon 2016. There, as part of the Sony Pictures presentation, Holland helped announce that next summer’s solo Spidey film has a title. As has been rumored for a few days, the July 7, 2017 release will be titled Spider-Man Homecoming.

“It really is a homecoming,” Holland told the crowd, “because, throughout the movie, Peter is trying to find out who he is and where he belongs in this world.”

Earlier this week, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased that Spider-Man Homecoming will feature characters from throughout the MCU. Fans will get to see Holland’s webslinger interacting with their favorite Marvel superheroes a lot sooner than next summer, however, as Spidey is slated to make his debut in Civil War. In fact, a new clip from Civil War ended the Sony Pictures presentation, offering a look at Peter Parker’s first encounter with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. In the clip, Parker comes home to find Tony sitting on the couch with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Parker is surprised to see the famous billionaire playboy superhero sitting in living room and can only nod as Tony winks at him, clearly aware of his secret identity. Helping hide that secret from May (about whom Tony jokes, “It’s hard to believe she’s anyone’s aunt”), Stark pretends that Peter applied for a special program with Stark Industries and has been selected.

Scripted by Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Spider-Man Homecoming is also confirmed to star Zendaya as another lead character named Michelle. It will hit regular theaters and IMAX on July 7, 2017.

VENOM Movie Back On At Sony; Will Be Unrelated To Marvel's New SPIDER-MAN

If you thought Sony would abandon all of their Spidey-related projects once Marvel gained the rights to the Webhead, think again! It seems theVenom movie is still a go, with a brand new writer on board.

According to THR, Sony plans to move forward with that standalone Venom movie that was in development before the studio made their deal with Marvel to share the rights to Spider-Man.

Back then in was envisioned as a spin-off that would be set in the same continuity as the now defunct Amazing Spider-Man franchise, but word is it will now stand "apart from and unrelated to" the reboot that's in the works with Tom Holland reprising hisCaptain America: Civil War Peter Parker role.

Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter Dante Harper is on board to pen the script, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing and overseeing the project.

Sounds Like James Franco "Really Didn’t Like" Making The SPIDER-MAN Trilogy

When The Hollywood Reporter spoke with James Franco about his new time-traveling miniseries 11.22.63, the This Is The End star was asked whether or not there was anything he would like to go back in time and change about his life or career. In response, Franco seemingly revealed that he wasn’t quite fond of making Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, in which he portrayed Harry Osborn opposite Tobey Maguire, though the actor never mentions the “series of movies” by name. So, check out exactly what he said down below.

“I would say yes, there are certain things that you just would want to warn people about, but on the other hand, if I look back at just the small events of my own life, I know that sometimes the hardest things I had to go through or the most adverse things I had to experience are the things that changed me for the better,” James Franco told THR (viaUproxx) in response to the aforementioned question. “Just a really small example is, when I was younger, I did a series of movies that I really didn’t like. I worked really hard on them, but they weren’t movies that I cared about. And after they came out, I just felt so awful. So I could say, ‘oh, I would go back and not do those movies,’ but in fact by doing those movies, I realized, ‘oh, never make decisions based on career or what other people tell you anymore.’ Only do projects you care about, that you believe in, and that idea really just came out of having a bad experience on those movies.” What do you think?
